The territory is mostly mountainous Basilicata (46.8%).
The massifs of Pollino (Dolcedorme Serra - 2267 m) and Sirino (Mount Pope - 2005 m), Mount Alps (1,900 m), Mount Raparo (1,764 m) and the complex range of Maddalena (Volturino Mountain - 1836 m) are the major findings of Lucania Apennines. In the north-western region is an extinct volcano Mount Vulture.
The hills make up 45.13% of the land is clay, subject to erosion resulting in landslides.
The plains occupy only '8% of the territory. The largest is the plain of Metaponto which occupies the southern part of the region, along the Ionian coast. The rivers are torrential and Basilicata are Brad, Basento, Agri, Sinn and Cavone.
