The city covers an area of predominantly alluvial expanded to 236.02 km ², the minimum level elevation is 0 m (zero meters), the maximum of 1,803 m, the average level of the old town is 31 m. The historical center is between the broad stream of the Annunciation (north) and the torrent of Calopinace (south), the entire municipality is between Catona (north) and Bocale (south).
After the earthquake of 1908 the city was rebuilt with long straight roads, wider than the old ones. (See map).
