Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Ravenna PDF Print
Guide Italia - Emilia-Romagna

The Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built in the first half of the fifth century, after 426, is located in Ravenna, not far from the Basilica of San Vitale. The building, originally connected to the church of Santa Croce by a porch, now lost, was probably a chapel dedicated to Saints Nazario and Celso. According to tradition, the empress Galla Placidia, regent of the Western Roman Empire for her son Valentinian III, he had built for himself, for the husband to his brother Constantius III and Honorius this funeral chapel. Less likely was the mausoleum of Galla Placidia, as sources report how it died and was buried in Rome (450) where his remains still lie in the chapel of Santa Petronilla in the basilica of St. Peter.
