Municipality of Modena
Modena (Modena modN in dialect, from the Etruscan Mutna, then Mutina changed by the Romans) is a city in Emilia-Romagna, capital of the province. It was from 1598 and for several centuries the capital of the duchy of Este (until its annexation to the Kingdom of Italy in 1859) and is an ancient university and the archbishop. Since 1947, the city is also home to the Army and the Military Academy of the Carabinieri.
The Cathedral, Torre Civica (Ghirlandina) and the Grand Square of the city have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
