The province was divided in two districts of Udine and Pordenone.
In 1923 the districts of Tarvisio, Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin, Circhina, Idria, Aidussina, Vipava, Channel, Gorizia, Cormons, Accept, Cervignano (excluding the town of Grado and the resort of Isola Morosini) and Komen (excluding Aurisina and location nearby) were aggregated to the province because of the abolition of the province of Gorizia and welcome. In 1927 the province of Gorizia was reconstituted with the territories that were ceded to the province of Friuli, excluding the districts of Tarvisio and Cervignano and the common-Chiopris Viscone, who remained in Udine.
In 1940, the Province of Friuli was renamed to its current name, the Province of Udine. Formed the Italian Republic in 1968 broke away from the Province of Udine all part of the so-called Right Tagliamento, 51 municipalities that formed as the Province of Pordenone.

The new province was to be called the regional province of Upper Friuli, resulting from the union territories of the meat, and Tarvisio Gemonese. To overcome the parochial diatribe on the seat of the capital, and between Tolmezzo Gemona del Friuli, they opted for Venzone. The referendum had failed, because either the Gemonese Tarvisiano opposed to separation from the province of Udine with high percentages (83.3% no), unlike the meat that instead voted in favor of detachment (71.8% so, with the exception of the town of Rigolato, 53.7% no) .. | |
