City of La Spezia

La Spezia (La Spezia in La Spezia dialect, pronounced [exp [za]) is a town of Liguria and the capital of the province. With its 95 641 inhabitants is the second most populous municipality in the region (its urban area has a population of 136 000 inhabitants), preceded only by the capital Genoa.
The city is located at the eastern region of Liguria, a few kilometers from the border with Tuscany, in the middle of a deep natural bay which takes its name. That gulf, also known by the name of the Gulf of Poets, is surrounded by a chain of hills, whose highest peak is Mount Verrugoli massive, 749 m above sea level, roughness which is located on the western outskirts of the village.
The municipality of La Spezia is part of the Interregional River Basin Authority Slim and a small portion of the municipality, represented by the small village of Sunset and the surrounding hills, is part of the Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre.
