Villa della Regina, Torino PDF Print
Guide Italia - Piemonte

The Villa della Regina architecture is situated on the hill of Turin.

It was designed around 1620 by Ascanio Vitozzi (some sources cite instead Carlo and Amedeo di Castellamonte) for the Cardinal Maurizio di Savoia, a man of great culture who resigned following the cardinal to live in this house with his wife Ludovica.
The name of the complex is justified by the fact that it was the favorite residence of the Savoy royal wives of two queens, Anna Maria of Orléans and Maria Anton Ferdinand of Spain (wives respectively of Vittorio Amedeo Vittorio Amedeo II and III).

The structure is typically seventeenth-century with a splendid garden, a square-elliptical terrace gives access to a higher court rectangle that surrounds the castle, a building to his left and a terrace on the right. Behind the building a semi-circle carved into the hillside garden, with terraces and viewpoints, decorative fountains (notable caves and the water fountain in the chain) and the beautiful water show.

Transfer to his court at the Palazzo del Quirinale, a lot of furniture and works of art were transferred to Rome and the Villa della Regina stripped. Abandoned after the exile of Savoy, and hit by Allied bombing during World War II, the Villa has known after decades of decline, which was remedied with restoration lasted over a decade. It is expected therefore that the villa can regain the old splendor will also host a Centre for Historical Documentation, you can then return to taste the wine produced from the vineyards, thanks to constant revision in the Royal Gardens. In 2008 the first harvest was performed.

The villa is open on weekends with reservations required.
