Municipality of Asti

Asti (Piedmont AST) is a town of 75,910 inhabitants of the Piedmont, the capital of the province of Asti.

"Municipium" known as the Roman Hasta Hasta Pompeia or simply, was the seat of the Duchy of Asti, Lombard duchy of Neustria. Free commune in the Middle Ages, with the right to "coin money" was one of the most important centers of trade between the twelfth and thirteenth century, its merchants developed trade and credit in Europe. She is known worldwide for its wines, notably Asti spumante and every year in September, it hosts one of the most important wine competitions in Italy, called the Douja d'Or. Famous Palio is also its historical manifestation of the oldest in Italy, which takes place in September and culminates with a race horse mounted "sleeping" (without saddle). In recent years, has assumed considerable importance at national festivals including the Festival of Asti, a wine event that takes place in the week before the Asti Palio di Asti, where over 40 per site in the province of Asti present their specialties, accompanied Asti DOCG wines, in a large open-air restaurant, a destination now have thousands and thousands of people from all over Italy every year.
