City of Biella

Biella (Biel in Piedmontese) is an Italian town of 45,776 inhabitants, capital of the province in the Northern Piedmont.
The city is situated at the foot of the Biella Alps, and its existence is attested since the High Middle Ages. Then dominated by the bishops of Vercelli, in 1379 it passed to Savoy. Biella during the nineteenth century saw a great industrial and urban development, and soon became known for its textile industries.
There are many historical and artistic heritage of its past, the most important we remember the baptistery, the cathedral, St. Stephen's Tower and numerous villas and palaces.
