City of Cuneo

Cuneo (Coni in Piedmontese) is a town of 55,061 inhabitants, capital of the province. Founded in 1198 on a plateau in a triangle, a "wedge" in fact, located at the confluence with the river plain between Stura and Gesso. The oldest part of town lies on the tip and is characterized by a system board on a street median (via Rome) from medieval times. The city is served by the Cuneo-Levaldigi. During the last years the city has grown, especially in direzioneSud West, incorporating other neighboring municipalities such as Borgo San Dalmazzo and Boves, going to be a single urban area of about 96,000 residents.

Palaces

Villa Oldofredi Tadini - The building - built into the system of "Open Castles" Southern Piedmont - was built between the fourteenth and the fifteenth century as a watchtower to protect the city. The house, a museum has a collection of memorabilia and unique items collected over the centuries by the owners, the families of San Michele Moccia and Oldofredi Tadini. The tour includes the chapel, with the relics of the Shroud of Turin, the ground floor rooms, some rooms on the second floor and the park.
Villa Tornaforte - this building is due to a historical event. On August 5, 1595 - holy day to Our Lady of the Snow - in fact, made a solemn procession will enter the Friars of the Order of Saint Augustine (Augustinian friars). During the events of 1744 (during the war of succession to the throne of Austria, which also affected the area), the church, the bell tower and the monastery suffered serious damage. After centuries of grace, at the time the Napoleonic occupation, the Friars went through the most tragic and cruel in their history. The community of PP. Augustinian friars was suppressed and dispersed or massacred. The complex went to Count Bruno Tornaforte who turned it into a patrician villa. The Church was donated to the city that used it as a parish of Our Lady of the Elm, as it still is. The building is surrounded by a large park with trees and monuments. A large lake is divided by an old arched bridge. This stately home retains a mysterious charm, thanks to the evocative tales of the owner, Lucia Toselli Bernardi, who died in August 2007.
