Municipality of Vercelli

Vercelli (Vërsèj in Piedmontese) is an Italian town of 46,982 inhabitants, capital of the province.

The city of Vercelli in the Po valley is situated to the north-east of the river Po and along the small river Sesia. The entire area surrounding the city is flat and is full of stagnant water courses that allow a large irrigation area (after the water is carefully purified) is essential for rice cultivation. The city is located halfway between the cities of Milan and Turin, between the Ligurian Sea and Switzerland and between Biella and Novara.
It is known for rice production and the vast rice fields in Vercelli, Novara also typical.
