Guide Italia - Puglia

Municipality of Foggia

Foggia is an Italian town of 152,928 (73.530m; 79.398f) people capital of the province in Puglia.
It is the third most densely populated region and the twenty-fourth in the national rankings, is home to the archbishop and metropolitan university since 1999.
Located on the plains of Puglia, Foggia maintains the strong agricultural tradition that for centuries has made it an important commercial center. Until the early nineteenth century was the seat of the Royal Customs of the sheep, which regulated grazing of the Abruzzi and the captains. Despite the various successive earthquakes over the centuries and the bombing during the Second World War, which caused approximately 20,000 civilian casualties (almost a third of the time), preserves an important artistic and architectural heritage, concentrated mainly in the Old city.
