Lecce (IPA: / Èlettƒe /, Salento, Lecce messapico Sybar griko Luppìu, Latin Lupiae) is an Italian town of 95,263 inhabitants, capital of the province in Puglia.
It is located in the flattest of Salento, in the heart of a densely urbanized area, which has 432,939 inhabitants and covers a land area of 1580.56 km ².
Capital and largest cultural center of the Salento peninsula, the home of the archdiocese and a university, is located 11 kilometers from the Adriatic coast and 23 from the Ionian. It is the capital of the easternmost province of Italy.
Active in the agricultural industry (oil, wine), ceramics, paper mache and cultural tourism and resort is the city where most elaborate was the development of Baroque art in local stone, limestone, malleable, and very suitable for working with a scalpel.
