Municipality of Taranto

Taranto (Tarde in local dialect) is an Italian town of 192,741 inhabitants, capital of the homonymous province of Puglia. This is the second largest city in Puglia, the third most populous municipality in southern peninsular Italy, and the sixteenth most populous of Italy. The area consists of large tarantina 28 municipalities, of which Taranto is the leader.
Located in the gulf of the Ionian Sea, lies between two seas: the Mar Grande and Mar Piccolo. Together with Prop in the territory of Ostuni (BR), and Santa Maria di Leuca (LE), represents one of the ideals of Salento, though, whilst not being included. It is home to a large industrial and commercial port and an arsenal of the Italian Navy, and the greater naval station. There is also an important industrial center, with steel plants (including the largest iron and steel center of Europe), petrochemical, cement and shipbuilding, for these reasons, it is also one of Europe's most polluted cities. It is also active in the liquor industry.
The main activities of the province are agriculture, fisheries, industry in the aeronautical, chemical, food, textiles, handicrafts, woodwork, glass and ceramics
