City of Carbonia-Iglesias

The Province of Carbonia-Iglesias (Sardinian Province of Carbonia-Igrèsias; in Provins tabarchini de Carbon-Igréxi) is a newly established province of Sardinia. It is bordered by the Province of Cagliari in the east, and the other recently established the Province of Medio Campidano for a short distance to the north, and is the smallest extension of Sardinia.
The new province is situated in the extreme south-west of Sardinia, are included in the provincial boundaries, two smaller islands of Sardinia: the island of San Pietro and S. Antioco Island (linked to the territory by an artificial isthmus and fourth largest in Italy), which form the archipelago of Sulcis.
The province has 23 municipalities, and is populated by about 130,000 inhabitants. Geographically it covers 1,495 km ² (6.2% of the Sardinian territory). It has a population density of 87.1 inhabitants / km ², higher than the average of Sardinia which is 69.4 inhabitants / km ², this puts the second highest population density among the eight provinces, only preceded by the Sardinian province of Cagliari .
