Ragusa (Rausa in Sicilian) is an Italian town of 73,332 inhabitants, capital of the province in Sicily.
It is the seventh most populated town of the island and is located in the mountains Iblei.
The city is the most wealthy of southern Italy, is called the "City of Bridges" for the presence of three structures very picturesque, but it was also defined by writers, artists and economists as the "island within an island" or "the other Sicily, thanks to its history as a socio-economic context is very different from the rest of the island. In 1693 a devastating earthquake caused the almost total destruction of the entire city, killing more than five victims. The reconstruction, which took place in the eighteenth century, divided into two main areas: on one side than Ragusa, Ragusa and the other located on the plateau, built and rebuilt from the ruins of ancient cities in the ancient medieval buildings.
The architectural masterpieces built after the earthquake, along with all those in the Val di Noto, have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO, Dubrovnik is one of the most important ever for the presence of valuable examples of baroque art.
