Syracuse (Sa'rausa in Sicilian) is an Italian town of 123,549 inhabitants [1], the capital of the province of Siracusa in Sicily.

The name derives from the Sicilian Syracuse Syraka (plenty of water) for the presence of many streams and a wetland. Both in greek that is plural in Latin, Syracusae because the city was founded by arches, a noble of Corinth in 734 BC, became in a few years Pentapolis as the original core, established on the island of Ortigia joined as four other nuclei: Acradina, Tyche, Neapolis and Epipoli.
The city is developed in part on the Ortigia island of cape-and partly on land. The shape of the coastline leads to the wide bay of Porto Grande, the Island city to the north and south from the promontory of Plemmirio. The territory of the municipality is crossed by rivers Cyane, Anapo Mammaiàbica and canals, and Queen Pismotta that flow into the Grand Harbour promoting the formation of wetlands, historically called Pantanelli.
The town is bordered to the north by Priolo Gargallo and Garden City (population of Melilla) to the west Solarino, Floridia, Palazzolo Acreide, Noto and Bath and south by Noto and Avola. The boundaries are delimited on the north by the district Targia; scenic outpost west of Belvedere, south of Cassibile and Fontane Bianche.
