Grosseto is an Italian town of 81,308 inhabitants located in Tuscany, capital of the province and the main cities of the Maremma.
It is the capital of the province located to the south from those of Tuscany and, in land area, is the largest municipality in the region and the third and ninth of the whole of central Italy after Rome, Ravenna, Cerignola, Noto , Sassari, Monreale, Gubbio and Foggia.
A demographic, the city had just 4,724 inhabitants immediately after the Unification of Italy, beginning then the exponential growth that has led to exceeding the threshold of 70,000 units in 1991 and 80,000 in 2009.
From the urban point of view, the city is one of the few provincial capitals (with Ferrara, Bergamo, Lucca), whose old town was completely surrounded by walls, integrated whole, which has remained almost unchanged its appearance over the centuries.
