San Lorenzo Cathedral, Perugia PDF Print
Guide Italia - Umbria

San Lorenzo is the Catholic cathedral of the Archdiocese of Perugia.

Since the inception of the diocese had a cathedral in Perugia various locations, until, between 930 and 1060, the first building was built along the transept of the cathedral. The cathedral today, originally called the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and Ercolano, dates back to a project in 1300 by Fra Bevignate which was started in 1345 and completed in 1490. The external decoration, a geometric pattern of diamonds in pink and white marble (taken from the Cathedral of Arezzo) was never completed, and now occupies only the lower part of the side. The consecration of the cathedral was finally in 1587. The interior decoration was completed in the eighteenth century with the addition of paint, stucco, gilding and marble.
