National Archaeological Museum of Umbria, Perugia PDF Print
Musei Italia - Musei da visitare

the National Archaeological Museum of Umbria is an archaeological museum located in Perugia in Piazza Giordano Bruno.

Since 1948 is located in the former convent of San Domenico. It is divided into two main sections devoted to the prehistory and the Etruscan-Roman period. In 1960, after the donation by the City of Perugia, the Italian government took over the management of the Museum. In 1964 there was established the Superintendency of Antiquities (today, "the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Umbria).

Many of the exhibits come from excavations in the nineteenth century: among them are of considerable interest to the "sarcophagus by Sperandio," the "stone of Perugia" and "archaic bronzes of Castel San Mariano." Of great historical and archaeological interest is also in the reconstruction site of the tomb of Cai-Cutu (III - the first century BC), including associated funerary objects.

Many prehistoric artefacts come from the purchase of a private collection, but also from the excavations that, since the early twentieth century, have expanded the size of the museum.
